Welcome to Southbourne Surgery

 We are currently experiencing extremely high volumes of telephone calls. If you wish to book a flu clinic please use the online booking option if you are able to do so.

We would like to thank you for your patience and  support during the pandemic.

In line with government recommendations we continue to work in a total triage model and our previous ways of working have stopped. Current NHS England guidance states that following a remote assessment patients should be seen face to face when clinically necessary.  We continue to follow this guidance and clinicians will decide when a patient should be seen face to face. Working in this way reduces the risk of transmission of COVID19 and helps to protect patients, surgery staff and the local community. This way of working has allowed the surgery to remain open during the COVID19 pandemic. The image below shows how we have maintained patient contact during these difficult times. 

For the team to continue working in this way whilst dealing with increasing volumes of clinical correspondence, and priority work around our chronic disease management we are now prioritising urgent matters after 12.00pm.

After that time please only call the surgery if you have an urgent matter which you believe requires consultation by a clinician on the same day. Please refer to the self care guidance on our website if you are unsure.

If you have a non-urgent matter that does not require a same day consultation, please complete an e-consult which will then be assessed by a member of our clinical team, who will respond either by text, email or a telephone call. You may also choose to phone the surgery between 8:30 and 12:00 on the next working day.

As we are heading towards less warm seasons of the year we have installed a small waiting shelter outside. It only holds up to two people (who are then able to keep at a 2 metre social distance) but it does offer some respite from inclement weather. If you are coming to the surgery on foot or bicycle please feel free to use it whilst waiting to be called inside.

We are unable to run our usual walk in flu clinics due to the current Covid-19 situation. Therefore, to keep everyone safe and based on Government advice, we have chosen to run small mid-week clinics and three Saturday clinics on an appointment only basis i.e. no walk-ins at all.

Every patient who is eligible for a flu vaccine will receive a text message or a letter. If you receive one of these, please book online if you are able to do so or alternatively  telephone reception after 15:00 and book into one of the available clinics. Please be aware that we are experiencing a very high number of daily calls so online booking is preferred. Many Thanks.  There will be clinics run over three Saturdays this year, 26th September, 3rd and 10th October and there are plenty of appointments available for all those who wish to be vaccinated..

We endeavour to respond to e-consults by the end of the next working day however during busy periods it may be necessary for this to be delayed after assessment by a member of the triage team. If you feel a more urgent response is required, please contact the surgery reception team.

The transmission of digital images of children that show genitalia or "sensitive" areas is illegal even if it is from a parent to a medical practitioner.
Therefore please ensure that if you upload an image using e-consult that it does not include these areas.

This practice is experiencing disruption to normal services as a result of increased Coronavirus activity at the present time.  We have moved to telephone triage for urgent problems with no pre-bookable appointments and are only able to offer a limited service for non-urgent matters.  Please be aware that both the reception team and the triage team are exceptionally busy, and we apologise in advance for any delay in taking your call.    If your problem is life threatening, please dial 999.  Please DO NOT send any photos of ailments to the surgery unless a doctor requests you to do so.
